Dear friend, our dear little Gretta from Gothere closed her eyes and fainted with four paws up! The Magical Mushroom Land had taken dear Gretta by surprise. As the little man marched over to her he pushed on her nose and kicked her ear...and Gretta did not respond.
Gretta was in a deep deep sleep, dreaming of magical mushrooms and a raccoon that was dancing on the moon, and a bear that was doing cart wheels over a rainbow...there was a book flying, with no words and a couple of rats swimming in tea bags...Gretta had gone...to sleep....deep sleep, slumbering sleep....Will her friends ever find her?

The Magical Mushroom Land
Oh missy my my...what is a hedgehog to do when she is so famished she is going to faint? Gretta awoke, hungry as a bear! Mozes had told her many stories of bear rumblings in the tummy and I do believe Gretta needed a sweet. While the others were looking at a book with no words...she couldn't figure it out and got so tired waiting...rubbin' her eyeballs she rolled down the hill to the wetlands. There before her eyes, on the path to Nowhere was The Magical Mushroom land. "I do believe I'm going to soon starve to death...I think I'll just take a wee bite of this polka dotted candy red mushroom!"
"YOU TWITT GRETTA...I told you never to bite at my roof top and now look what you have done!" Gretta fell backwards on her bottom and banged her noggin on a bottle and yelped out loud...Ouch! A wierd little man flew open the door yelling at the top of his lungs something that sounded like a blender whirling...saying bad things.
In a tizzy dizzy Gretta opened her mouth to apologize and some yummy blueberry tasting stuff dripped out of the bottle on her tongue. Oh...thats sooooooo gooooood....distyseettjkeklg...bllegeeel...ggood.dllgd...stoot!!!

The Rest of the Journey Starts with the First Step

The sun itself was barely waking from its slumber when Gretta suddenly opened her eyes, not by the rude awakening of Mozes's old time piece, but by a sudden pain on her spine...

"Oh, sorry there old thing", chirped Tea Rat, as he looked up at the spikey bundle of confusion and plucked out one of her quills. "What are you supposed to be, Tea? You are puttin' a hurt on my vision" squinted Gretta.
"I GOT IT! Your quills are close in quality to that of my plume that I left behind at Clair de Lune on my writing table. The berries off the bush on the other side of this large rock will bleed out the perfect ink. I am going to write in one of the empty books that has appeared before us."
"Are you sure about this Tea? Shouldn't we talk to Mozes and Rattus about this first? Maybe these are some sort of sacred tomes that we shouldn't be messin'with..."
The Tea Rat tugged on his vest that was about 2 sizes too small; he never divulged from where this little ensemble came, but all the same, he liked how he felt, even though it made bending over a little difficult. "AU BOULOT I must go!" and off he went to write about the adventures in Nowhere.

BOOKS books books....

Lets hit the road..said Rattus...and with his book clutched under his arm he started walking down the path that was laying before him ..Mozes, Tea,Raccoon and Gretta followed..
The Fellowship of Nowhere was on its way...They didn't speak much whilst wandering through the forest...enough was said in the last few ours...now they needed some quiet time to think..
Rattus- As much as I like to travel..this time I find it very difficult..if only we could find some kind of transport..a train would be nice..
Mozes- Well, look at my dear friend Rattus,he seems troubled..I am sure this isn't easy for him...having a great mind can make you feel very responsible ..Then Mozes reached out his paw and slapped rattus on his back saying..'Its going to be oke Old Chap..we can do anything as long as we stick together..Rattus looked over his shoulder and gave Mozes a big smile...
Tea-Did you see that..yep...that's what friends are for...and I am so happy to call them my friends..what ever may happen next..we will muddle through...and he made a little jump for joy..this was a great adventure..and not to worry...we did find two books and a key...lets keep the faith...
Gretta-Look at Tea..skipping about..always a jolly good fellow...great travel companion..where there is Tea,there is hope...And Gretta started hopping too...the key tucked away in her blouse....
Raccoon...closing the line.....'Books..books books...what do they mean to us...Is knowledge this important... to my opinion imagination is FAR more important ....and this key...we have to find the lock first....It's really very heavy this book ...I think I will throw it away..I have everything I need to get by in my heart..and in my soul...
And so he did....without anyone noticing the book disappeared in the bushes...well..they didn't even know Raccoon had a book in the first place....

The journey into the unknown IS the adventure
While Gretta and her friends were winding their way carefully through the brush and rocky trail back to their friends, strange events (as if you didn't know) were unfolding back at the camp.
You'll recall that a seemingly miraculous book with the title "Guide to Knowhere" had fallen from the sky and hit Rattus on the head, but when the little band opened the book, they found the pages empty, except for one page that said "The End."
"But what's between the beginning and 'The End'?" whispered Mozes, putting to words what everyone was obviously thinking.
"And is this the wondrous book written by the mysterious teacher of wisdom called The Guide?," muttered Tea, almost to himself, so that if it was not for the quiet, no one would have heard.
"And, confound it, what kind of place is this where books fall from the sky, and why, of all possible landing places in the whole wide world, on my head?" Rattus was speaking and rubbing the small but painful bump on his head. His words had a tone of indignation, as if heaven itself had just insulted him, and all the more as there was nothing written in the book that was worth his pain. (Adding insult to injury, as they say.)
Everyone was now talking all at once. Everyone talking. Nobody listening. But through the cacophony pierced a single shrill voice, like a whistle in a whirlwind:
"Yoo...hoo. We're ba..ack! And looky what we found?" A small pack of creatures crawled, scratched, pranced and waddled their way to the group, led by Getta. She was the one prancing as if on toe shoes, and grinning ear to ear, holding up a key. She looked like an Olympian Torch runner (but on toe shoes) at the opening of the games, fully aware that all the world was watching. "Yoo...hoo! A magic key to Nowhere."
"Well....There it is! Another mystery. I'm sooo glad," exhaled Rattus, rolling his eyes upward in frustration and adding: "Can we move on now, or do we plan to build a civilization on this spot?"
Tea Rat: "Now, now, dear fellow, let's not lose our civility. Let's hear what Gretta has to say." "Yes, my dear," Tea said to Getta. "What is that key you're holding?"
"I haven't the foggiest idea!"
Rattus: "Oh, for the love of... Travelers needing directions? Home? Hearth? Do any of these things ring a bell? Is anyone else's stomach rumbling like Vesuvius? By Tane's whiskers, can we walk while we talk? Let's either build a civilization here or find one."
Mozes: "He has a point. Let's keep walking and maybe the mysteries of the book and the key will reveal themselves in time."
"That's it!" Tea Rat spoke far too loud, as if everyone was hard of hearing but him. Realizing his over-enthusiasm, he said in a more hushed but still excited tone:
"That was the other part of the ancient fragment about the book. We're not supposed to know everything about our journey and its surprises along the way. We're only supposed to take it. No one is a spectator, see? We're all on a journey, and we can only read about our past travels, not our future ones. The past informs the future. That is what the ancients called becoming wise."
"You're right, old fellow," said to Tea to Rattus. "Neither your book nor Gretta's key were meant to stop our progress while we figure them out. We're supposed to keep moving ahead. Whatever we need to know for the rest of our journey will reveal itself in time. If we are paying attention, that is."
"The journey into the unknown IS the adventure. Got it," said Mozes.
"That's the first logical, sensible and promising thing I've heard all day," said Rattus, already walking briskly down the trail without waiting for the others.
But only Tea noticed that for all his protests about falling books, bumps on the head, and rumbling stomachs, Rattus still had the mysterious book clamped securely in one paw, like a mother holds on to her child's hand so as not to lose it in a crowd, his other paw still rubbing his head. "He's no fool," thought Tea to himself. "He wants all the help he can get just like the rest of us."
Meanwhile, Gretta looked at her key as if it was the gift of the gods, held it tightly in her fist, and pranced forward on her toes.
The journey continued at last.

The House of Answers
Gretta has only had one duck friend in her life and now was time for her to swim over, waddle up and sit down beside Gretta. She dried her tears with her feathers and then pulled out a little box and opened the tired lid. A little box of padlocks and keys! Whatever was this?
These my friend are keys to many places. This one is to Somewhere, this one is to Gothere, this is for Overthere and that one is for Underwear..I mean Underthere...and I've never found one to Nowhere...but I think this one may be it! Lets travel to the Hilltop in Overthere and call with our biggest voices for Mozes and Raccoon and your friends...maybe they will answer. Tuck this key in your sock...give it to Rattus perhaps and see what he can make of it.

Gretta went where?
I'm so confused and my mind is in a fuzz. Raccoon is lost or left behind...doing his business they say...I think I see a lily pad...and oh yes, there is the big floating sky...
Behind the weeping willow tree Gretta wandered and turned left and right and back a might and her curious lil' mind was captivated by a little red and white tug boat. The others on't mind when I tell em' what I find! She scurried through the ferns and over two big rocks, past the nettle bush...there seemed to be some clucking going on over in the under or under in the over there...
Git out of here...you prickle of a pine needle! Take your fat behind and move it! Gretta blinked and couldn't believe her ears, that big dumb rooster was talking to her! How RUDE you are your big dumb cluck!! I'm just looking for Nowhere! A wizzy tizzy, Raccoon is bizzzy...you have me all in a futtle...and I need my bear...Mozzzzes.....where are you????
Gretta it is me, over here. Don't mind those idiotic chickens, they don't know a thing about Gretta from Gothere...Here I am, your long lost friend Dorina. There is the sign to Gothere...now go there, go back home to Gothere Gretta.
Trying to smile and thankful to see Dorina, Gretta from Gothere tried hard to put a smile on her face but her eyes welled up and got shinny and tears were going to pop out any minute. She missed her friends, especially her long time pal and protector Mozes bear. Dorina...you can't help me, because you only know how to get to Gothere and I need to find Nowhere and now I've lost my way. Where's a map or a lucky star or a wishing well or something...do you have a magical book Dorina dear?
Out of the blue...

While Tea,Mozes and Gretta were skipping merrily down the road...Raccoon spotted an interesting box...
Raccoon:Now lets see...what do we have here....o my gosh...PIZZA....and a BOOK?...Strange combination..well,I always love a good read to go with my dinner...
Raccoon being Raccoon sat himself down to have a little pizza party...with his mouth stuffed with pizza he opened the book....and then,my dear readers and friends..our little fellow almost jumped out of his furry coat from sheer joy....then, a piece of pizza went down the wrong way and Raccoon almost choked...There were tears in his eyes and he just couldn't stop coughing..
Down the road Mozes turned around...
-Friends,we have to stop for a while...I believe Raccoon had to do a little something in the bushes..lets wait, its taking some time...
-I will go and check..Rattus said..followed by T..you never know what happened..
-Raccoon old chap...are you oke...
Out of the box Raccoon appeared...and said..well, you already know what he said but now you know this isn't the whole truth...
He found a book...

Someone's Trying to Tell us Something
After a long but wonderful night of discussion and a few disagreements, the fellowship of friends moved on from their campsite to carry on their travels. In the twinkling revelation of morning dawn, a small glimmer of light caught Gretta's eye; she stood fixed, needles at a sudden halt, when she nudged Tea on the side and said, "What is this? Another book?" Tea sniffed the objects in question and then proceeded to open the beautifully carved and inlaid texts...
Tea's eyes were all a blurr given the early hour; but of what he could make out was that again, there were empty pages in the first book and half of an image in the second...
The plot thickens.
Tea quietly approached Mozes and showed him the books and they both decided it would be a good idea to take them along in their provisions sack. "Don't squish my fromage blanc!" hissed Tea as Mozes quickly stuffed the two books into the sack. "Stop thinking with your stomach for just one minute little man....we must not tell the others, not just yet."

Two simple words
As Gretta from Gothere blinked and fluttered about in a tizzy, Mozes wandered on over there and picked up the old worn volume. It's looks as though some honey or some such has stuck a page together right in the middle, half way through the book. He blew his bear breath on the page and gentle turned the page.
Raccoon and Tea scurried in a hurry on over and blinked and then Mozes winked...for there was two simple words in the book after all...but could it be? The End?

Rattus' eyes were growing larger in surprise, in shock really. In fact, everyone in this small band of traveling companions were beginning to realize that something truly amazing had just happened and something even more amazing was about to happen to them all.
Rattus thought: "Here we are in the land of Nowhere, and a book falls from the sky out of nowhere and happens to land on my head with the title 'Guide to Knowhere.'"
Without realizing it, Rattus had not been thinking to himself, but speaking out loud. His head snapped up in surprise when Tea Rat responded as if he had been reading his mind.
Tea Rat: "My dear fellow, I think Gretta is on to something. When I was a younger rat, doing research for my Doctorate in Teaology, I came across a fragment of an obscure ancient text. It mentioned that there existed the most wondrous book in the world. A book written by a great teacher known only as 'The Guide.' A book that promised to answer the greatest questions anyone could ever ask. Until now, I had always assumed that the whole thing was just a fairy tale or a myth."
Mozes: "I've never heard any stories about a magical book of wisdom, but there has got to be something magical about a book from the sky. But Tea's tale makes sense. Look at the title of this book. Tea said there was another ancient book written by a mysterious master teacher named 'The Guide,' answering the most profound questions about the journey of life we are all on. Could this be the same book?"
"Yes, yes. And look at the spelling. Look at the spelling," said Gretta, whose excitement caused her spines to swell outward.
Mozes: "Careful there Greta. Those things hurt. The 'K' in the title 'Guide to Knowhere' cannot be a spelling blunder. Put it together, my friends. It is the master teacher, The Guide's invitation to the greatest journey of all."
Rattus: "This does make some sense, by Tane." (Tane, for those who don't know, was a great noble ancestor of rat-kind. But that is another tale.) "But aren't we getting a little ahead of ourselves? Shouldn't we actually open the book to see what it says?"
The book in Rattus' hands was not beautiful. In fact it looked like it was hastily constructed with only enough stitching in the scuffed and faded leather binding and delicate yellowed pages to barely hold it together.
Slowly, everyone now gathered around Rattus with an awe that seemed to hush even the crickets and frogs that normally create a din in the gathering dusk of the day. Rattus placed one chubby paw on the book cover, looked into everyone eyes, widened with anticipation, and slowly opened the book to the first page.
It seemed everyone had even stopped breathing while Rattus opened to the first page, and found....
"Nothing," Gretta shrieked. "Absolutely nothing." A few of her spines accidentally shot outward.
"Oww! I told you to be careful," whimpered Mozes, picking out spines from his right shoulder.
Meanwhile, Rattus pawed furiously through the book to find page after page of....
"Nothing. I can't believe it!" bellowed Rattus. "Not a single letter written in the entire text."

To know or not to Know

-I am so glad that now we knowhere we are going..Mozes sighed..it's very difficult to lead when you have no guide...I know we should trust our instincts but this place is so very different from others..you can get confused.
-Knowledge is from the utmost importance, said Rattus...it can take you places, places you wouldn't belief existed...to know or not to know, that is the question...I agree, a guide could come in handy...
As soon as rattus had spoken these words...something fell out of the sky..on top of his head...
Would you believe it was a book....written on the cover....Guide To Knowhere...!
Rattus with great surprise opened it...On the first page he read...The guide to Knowhere explains mysteries of the mind.....'Mysteries of the mind', Rattus whispered...'how very interresting indeed..!
-Mind Mysteries,Tea said, reading over Rattus shoulder,..we don't need those, we need to nowhere we are going..
-I believe...Gretta said..I believe this book is trying to tell us that every answer or every road you surch for is already there to find...In your mind....dear Rattus she asked ,please read on..I am very curiuos.....

Second sign ahead...
By golly gee wizzy, I tink we are almost there. Gretta grabbed her socks and saw the second sign ahead...Gypsy from Nowhere! Wizzy gee golly, I think we have a clue, this Gypsy horse of course must live in Nowhere!
The small troop of animal friends linked their paws and tails together. Noses to the sun...they skipped and scampered and lumbered on...to Nowhere.

AHAAAAA.
Then the Great Rattus spoke...Who was supposed to bring the compass and the map? It wasn't me. I am in charge of the cheese, the biscuits and the keg of barley ale.
Look here, this is silly. We're animals. We are supposed to have a sixth sense about danger and an unerring sense of direction. You know, like the salmon that finds its original spawning ground; the dog lost in the wilderness that treks thousands of miles to its master. The penguin that finds its chick amidst millions of others.
Why can't any of us here have.... Wait a minute. I'm feeling that animal instinct. I have a capital idea. Why don't we follow that sign post in the road up ahead that says "Nowhere -->"?
AHAAAAA,You mean THAT one,Mozes said kind of embarressed...Well,why didn't you say so before...come on friends..lets hit the road..
Knurt..

Do you know this moment..were you are about to give up,because you are soo tired and you don't know how to move on...Well,our friends are having such a moment at this very moment..
-Guys,Guys,stop..we are traveling for days and days now..and still no Knowhere in site...are we sure we want to do this...maybe it's too much for us..maybe we will never find it..said Raccoon with a sad face.
-I must say old chap, answered Tea,I must agree with you,I feel the same way...If only we could find a sign...we don't even know if we are going in the right direction..and look at that mountain ahead..its to high a climb...
-OOOh aah ooh aaah...yelled Gretta suddenly....my toe, my toe..
-Yes dear..I can feel my toes too...infact my feet are worn off..I believe I am a few inchess shorter then when I started this journey, said Raccoon.
-No No.I hit my toe on something! Look, I believe its a knurt,eh..I mean a trunk giggled Gretta.
Mozes then lifted the trunk out of the sand and openend it...This is what they found...a letter..and not only that..there was music coming out of this trunk..LISTEN!
WE GOT IT! Uuh....we think....

WE TRUIMPHED!! As the Tea Rat, Rattus, and a daring friend from college days banded together to save Hilltop, the sweet taste of victory transformed into a dance of joy.
"Our Lady Fair Miss Moussie
Once had a little houssie
On Hilltop fair
A pumpkin dare
haunt this little houssie.
Alas! the band of three
Took to their destiny
They came, they conquered and lost a leg
But victory can still dance upon a peg!" HAIL TO MISS MOUSSIE!
Together they constructed a menacing decoy with large teeth to lure and crush the haunted pumpkin in its jaws. The third rat was injured in the process of constructing the jaws of death and lost a leg, but the thrill of the battle cry prevailed and CHARGE! Off they went FOR OUR LADY FAIR!!

Rattus' Tales
While the Tea Rat, Mozes, the Raccoon and the gregarious Gretta continue their travels, Rattus Scribus is scratching away with his plume in paw, cup of tea by his side and is waxing sentimental at the moment. He too, is enchanted with the events of all his wonderful friends. Every so often, he rises from his little pupitre (if he can squeeze out from the seat!) and he wonders over to the window to look far into the horizon; "Where is Nowhere?" he asks himself..."I would sure love to go there. But first, I must meet with Miss Moussie and learn more about the Dutchess's travels and get some traveling tips." He will post a letter to the little miss and wait for a reply....
Hibernation be......! The Dutchess is Back and It's Time to Celebrate!

I was sleeping soundly when suddenly I heard familiar footsteps. It was the Tea Rat who, as he whispered in my ear, tickled me with his long whiskers."Rise old chap"! he hissed. "The Dutchess is back!" I sprang up straight and made a cup of faery tea, compliments of the Tea Rat's travels. Dutchess, will you come and sit next to me and recount all of your adventures?

In the Den...

In another place..in a wonderful forest on a hilltop,a lovely lady stood puzzled at the entrence of a Den..she knew this place..she was here before..a friend of her lived here..a big cuddly bear...Its very dangerous to enter this Den..you might get lost, or eaten by Zwumps..nobody knows what Zwumps are..but believe me,they live in this big hollow tree..this Den..where Mozes lived..Now,nobody has seen Mozes for weeks..wel,he did come back one night for the harvest dinner...but after that..Early this morning this lovely lady saw a little mouse coming out of the Den..well, if it wasn't Miss Moussie..waving goodby to someone..what was she doing there...Strange place this Den..a coming and going of creatures who don't seem to be frightened of Zwumps at all..
Then the lady called out...'Mozes..are you in there'...'Mozes'...but the only answer she got was an echo...She didn't dare to go in...better wait till Mozes got back from his journey...she turned around and headed home..dinner was to be served at 8..at another den..in the Hilltop Hall.

A resting place
We've found our resting place. There is a perfect fort to rest and ponder the future to Nowhere. The view is safe from inside this fort. Gretta and Raccoon find peeking through the walls an adventure. The moose, the bears, the buffalo and rabbits, skunks and squirrels and even a grandmother hedgehog pass on by...Two humans didn't even see us. Come on in Mozes...you'll find a pillow of moss for your head in here and a bee's nest above. Good for the drippings...Saturday, October 3, 2009
Autumn has fallen in Nowhere

Though mortal routines are rare in NOWHERE, the seasons are all the same across the board. Autumn has set in and Mozes is feeling rather lazy today. Soon, his internal system will shut down and hum at a slow pace, patiently waiting for spring. Meanwhile, Gretta takes to waxing philosophical, the raccoon is plotting his next adventure and the Tea Rat is baking a pumpkin pie, recipe compliments of Gustave the chef. Have a cozy weekend everyone!
