Meet Little Hazel

One might think with just a mere glance that this is a timid, sweet little girl, and you know what, you'd be right! After meeting her you would add many many more colorful descriptions to that list!
You see, Hazel is an orphan, and actually lives under the 9th street bridge, there with her few friends. They all call her Hazel the lionhearted. She was given this nickname when she was just a wee toddler, living in the orphanage with the nuns. Born to a very young mother, she was given up at birth because she was born with a heart defect, and her young mother knew she could not care for the sickly child. The Nuns gladly took her in, and named her Hazel, after Sister Mary Hazel. The lionheart nickname came about from a tall tale one of the nuns told little Hazel about her heart. Now one might think, "oh surely a nun would never tell a tale, or untruth!" but in fact, that is exactly what happened. Hazel was given a heart transplant at just three years old, and had many questions about the huge scar that graced her tiny torso. So the story was told that she in fact would grow up to be a leader, a fierce, brave young woman who would do great things, because she was given the heart of a lion cub! Hazel has always known this was in fact, the truth..just look at her hair! How else could a human girl aquire such unruly hair, that is just like a lions mane? It was beacuse she had the heart of a lion! After a few short years,at only the young age of eight, Hazel decided that she should in fact be a leader, one of her own destiny, and she ran away from the orphanage, to help her friends who were homeless, and lived under the 9th street bridge, just a stones throw from the border of Nowhere, but until now, a complete world away.

Rattus: Tea Rat! Oh Tea!

Tea Rat: What?

Rattus: Did you hear the news?

Tea: Nowhere is a big place, and "News" includes a lot. Could you narrow it down please?

Rattus: Well, look who's become Mr. Logical. OK, I mean the really big, big, big news. That narrow it down enough?

Tea: Not really.

Rattus: Big! As in a new friend has come to Nowhere.

Tea: Help me out.

Rattus: She a little girl, born with bum ticker, orphaned, had a heart transplant.

Tea: Oh, I think I got it.... No, no, I lost it.

Rattus: Oh, Saint Rodentia preserve us. A little girl, homeless, lives under the 9th Street Bridge. No one expects anything from her, but there is sort of a prophesy that says she will do something great. You got it now? I mean all that's left is for me to tell you that her name is...

Tea Rat: Hazel. Sure I met her during a cheese expedition to strange lands. Saw her steal food in desperation. Called out to her, but I think she thought I was going to arrest her or something. I was just going to share some of my food with her.

Rattus: Why do you do that?

Tea: Do what?

Rattus: Pretend you don't know what's going on, when you do. Why do lead me about by the nose?

Tea: Oh, it's my job. Truth is, you have a gifted mind, old friend. Maybe too gifted. And I want to make sure that your brain never grows bigger than your heart. You are too dear a friend for me to allow that to happen.

Rattus: And you are too dear a friend for me not to listen.

Welcome to Nowhere, Hazel.

Rattus & Tea Rat.
